When launching the Kaltura Capture app on a Microsoft Surface the app buttons appear grayed out or the error message appears "failed to close recording file".
Resolution
Kaltura Capture is not supported on ARM based devices like Microsoft Surface (see Kaltura Capture's hardware requirements), however you can try to edit the JSON file and see if it works for your device.
Edit the JSON File
This may or may not work for your device.
- Completely close out of the Kaltura Capture application. Navigate to the system tray and right click on the Kaltura Capture icon.
- Select Quit.
- Navigate to this folder and swap out username with the username you use when you login to your computer
- File Explorer > This PC > Local Disk (C:) > Users > username > AppData > Local > Kaltura > Capture > Settings
- Open the file "localSettings.json" in Notepad
- Search for the value "config -> captureEngine -> encoderBlackList: []"
- In the block quotes, add “QCOM Hardware Encoder”

- Save and close the file
- Relaunch Kaltura Capture
