Canvas Catalog: How Do I Act as Another User in Canvas Catalog?

Issue

Acting as a user in Canvas Catalog allows sub-account administrators to troubleshoot issues effectively by viewing the system as the user would.

Resolution

To Act as a Student/Instructor in Canvas Catalog

1. Login to the Canvas side of Canvas Catalog: https://u-m-canvas.it.umich.edu/
2. Click Admin
3. Click University of Michigan -Catalog
4. Search for the User:
   • Click on the People tab
   • Use the search bar to find the user
5. Act as the User:
   • On the far right of the user's name, click the Act as User icon (it will look like a mask). Alternatively, you can click on the user's name to open their profile and then click Act as User within the profile.
   • Click Proceed to confirm.
6. Access the Student or Instructor's Perspective in Canvas Catalog:
   • You will be directed to the user's Canvas Dashboard.
   • To view the user's perspective in Canvas Catalog, click on Dashboard. This will open the user’s dashboard in the Canvas Catalog interface
7. Exit Acting as the User:

When you are finished impersonating the user, be sure to log out of Canvas Catalog and stop acting as the user in Canvas
