Enabling Stereo Sound in Zoom

Issue

Is it possible to have Stereo Sound in Zoom?

Resolution

Stereo sound is turned on as a feature for everyone under the Umich Zoom License, but it needs to be verified for individual accounts and turned on in the Desktop Client

Turn on stereo sounds in your account:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal
  2. Click My Meeting Settings (if you are an account administrator) or Settings (if you are an account member).
  3. In the meeting tab. navigate to Allow users to select stereo audio in their client settings and verify that the setting is enabled.
  4. If the setting is disabled, click the status toggle to enable it. If a verification dialog displays, click Turn On to verify the change.

    Note: If the option is grayed out, it has been locked at either the group or account level, and you will need to contact your Zoom administrator.

Turning on stereo audio in the Zoom Desktop Client

  1. In the Zoom Desktop Client, click your profile picture then click Settings.
  2. Click the Audio tab.
  3. Check the Enable Stereo sound option. Stereo audio will now be enabled for meetings and webinars you join from a computer.  

Additional Information

Note: Only meetings and webinars on the Zoom Desktop Client support stereo audio. Recordings and the Zoom Mobile App don't support stereo audio (audio will be mono).
