Environment
macOS Sequoia, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Chrome
Issue
I received a pop-up when I tried to screenshare with a program while running macOS Sequoia (15.0) that said, "[Service] is requesting to bypass the system private window picker and directly access your screen and audio. This will allow [Service] to record your screen and system audio, including personal or sensitive information that may be visible or audible."
It then provides choices to either "Allow for One Month" or "Open System Settings."
OR
I received a pop-up when launching Zoom while running macOS Sequoia (15.0) that said, "Allow Zoom to find devices on local networks? This will allow the app to discover, connect to, and collect data from devices on your networks."
It then provides choices to either "Allow" or "Don't Allow"
Why am I receiving this pop-up and how do I handle it?
Resolution
These alerts are new to how macOS Sequoia (15.0) handles requests made by these apps. The following is specific to the scope of Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Chrome, though users may find these pop-up requests with other apps while using this operating system.
For the screensharing request pop-up, this request is granting the app the ability to share your screen and audio with the app. This particular pop-up is the result of an application using older “Screen & System Audio Recording” APIs. Right now, there is no way to grant access for more than one month at a time. If you do not grant access, these apps will be unable to share your screen.
Note: Google Meet can be launched in the Apple Safari browser instead of Google Chrome to avoid this permission request when sharing your screen if needed.
For the find devices on local networks pop-up, Zoom will prompt this the first time it is launched, but the ITS MiWorkspace Mac Engineering team has tested this and found that functionality of the Zoom app is not impacted by users selecting "Don't Allow."
Additionally, the ITS MiWorkspace Mac Engineering team has documented other known issues and new behaviors for macOS Sequoia (15.0).
