How to assign Canvas content to individual students or sections.

Resolution

The following options can be assigned to specific students or sections (along with availability dates) using the "Assign to" feature.

• Modules and Module Items
  • See Instructure's How do I assign a module to individual sections or students? article.
  • See Instucture's How do I assign a module content item from the Module Index page? article.
  • Assignees are able to view all module items in the module they are assigned to unless they are explicitly not assigned to an individual module item, then they will not be able to view that item.
  • Only module item assignees will be able to view that item. For example, if the module item is within a module assigned to the entire class, only the assignees will see the module item.
  • If the assignees are assigned to a module item and not the module itself, they will not see the module but will be able to view the module item from the tool pages (for example an assignment will be viewable from the Assignment page).
  • External Tool and External URL module items cannot be assigned to individual students. These items can be placed within a module that is assigned to specific students.
• Pages
  • See Instructure's How do I create a new page in a course? article.
  • If the page is added as a module item, attendees can be added to either the module item or the Page itself. The list of attendees is the same, regardless of how they are added. Only assignees will be able to view this page.
• Assignments
  • See Instructure's How do I assign an assignment to an individual student? article.
  • To create an assignment that does not show in Gradebook, set Display Grade as Not Graded. 
  • If the assignment is added as a module item, attendees can be added to either the module item or the Assignment itself. The list of attendees is the same, regardless of how they are added. Only assignees will be able to view this assignment.
• Discussions
  • See Instructure's How do I assign a graded discussion to an individual student? article.
  • If the discussion is added as a module item, attendees can be added to either the module item or the Discussion itself. The list of attendees is the same, regardless of how they are added. Only assignees will be able to view this discussion.
