How do I use a desktop client for Zoom instead of the web interface? 


Zoom automatically downloads the Desktop Client the first time you have a meeting.

  • You can initiate the download from https://zoom.us/download (Zoom Client for Meetings) without scheduling a meeting.
  • Meetings can be started and scheduled from the Zoom web portal OR directly from the Zoom application.
  • It is necessary to use the Zoom desktop application to set certain in-app settings, including Audio/Video settings.

Note: The Zoom Desktop Client and Mobile App have different features than the Zoom web portal. You can use the Zoom web portal to change your meeting settings and Zoom Phone settings., or to customize your profile.

How to Open Zoom on your Computer


  • Open the Zoom client from your Applications folder
  • Open it from the Dock after saving it there.
    • Right-click on the Zoom icon in your Dock while it is open.
    • Choose Keep in Dock


  • Click the Windows icon in the taskbar
  • Find the Zoom item
  • Click on Start Zoom to launch the application

Note: On all versions of Windows, you can pin the Zoom desktop client to your taskbar, by right-clicking on Zoom desktop client, and then clicking Pin to Taskbar.
