Issue
Requirements for signing into each of the login options on the careers.umich.edu website.
Resolution
The Careers site at careers.umich.edu allows several login options. Each of these options sends you to different areas of the system, and it is important choose the right one for your situation.
NOTE: U-M Alumni and Retirees must register as an external applicant if their only affiliation is as an alum or retiree.
- If you are a U-M Regular Employee, click here
- Takes you to the Employee Self Service page of Wolverine Access
- Log in with your Uniqname and UMICH password
- If you are a U-M Temporary Employee, click here
- Takes you to the UM Careers Home Page
- Log in with your U-M Careers user name and password, NOT your U-M Uniqname
- U-M Temporary Employee link is the same as the External Applicant link.
- If you are an External Applicant, click here
- Prompts you to either log in or register for a U-M Careers user name and password
- Note that this login ID is NOT a FRIEND ACCOUNT or a UNIQNAME
- Neither the ITS Service Center (4HELP) group or the Shared Service Center can access it for password recovery
- To recover this password, select "Forgot Password"
- Enter your User Name to reset the password
- You will receive a message at the email address on file containing a temporary password
- Once your login is successful, you will be prompted to create a new password
- Return to the UM Careers website and use the temporary password to login
- If you are a U-M Graduate Student on the Ann Arbor campus, click here
- If you already have a Graduate Student Assistant (GSI) or Graduate Student Research Assistants (GSRA) affiliation, you will be prompted to log in with your Uniqname and UMICH password
- If you are a U-M Graduate Student on the Dearborn campus or the Flint campus, click here
- If you already have a Graduate Student Assistant (GSI) or Graduate Student Research Assistants (GSRA) affiliation, you will be prompted to log in with your Uniqname and UMICH password
Additional Information
External Applicants who do not receive the password reset email may not be using the correct username to request a temporary password email.
- Confirm the correct username
- From the https://careers.umich.edu/login page
- Click External Applicant
- Click Sign In
- Click Forgot User Name
- Type in the email address that was used when creating the careers account into the Primary Email Address box
- Click Email User Name
- The email you receive will contain any UMICH Careers usernames you created using that email address
- Once you have confirmation of your username(s), follow the steps in this article for using the Forgot Password function
- The password reset email containing the temporary password should now reach you, allowing you access
- You will be prompted to change the password once you log in using the temporary password that was sent to you via email
**If the customer types in their password and sees additional dots in the password field, this is expected behavior; It's just a security feature of the page. Have the customer type in their password, ignoring the additional characters, and sign in.
