Summary
The Mobile Data Expert Network (MDEN) is a collaborative problem-solving network at the University of Michigan comprised of staff and junior faculty who develop and share tools and documentation that enhance the reproducibility and rigor of U-M studies using mobile devices. MDEN members routinely host presentations about mobile data and tools. These are the recordings available from the 2025-2026 academic year.

Avicenna Research - An All-In-One Participant-Centric Research Solution
Presented on December 1, 2025 by Amin Tavassolian, Avicenna Research.
Amin Tavassolian from Avicenna Research’s Product Growth team presents Avicenna, a participant-centric research platform that manages and automates research processes, including participant enrollment, survey and wearable data collection, analysis, and visualizations. Key features highlighted include form-based data collection, sensor data integration, and compliance monitoring. The presentation covers GPS data collection challenges and Avicenna’s algorithm to reduce battery drain, as well as integration with Kibana and Elasticsearch for data export, analysis, and compliance dashboards. Amin concludes with a preview of advanced features like R integration and AI-simulated cohorts.
