A widget is a block (or legacy widget) placed in a widget area. Widget areas are global parts in your site’s layout that can accept blocks. By default, added widgets will all appear in the same order on all pages of your site. If you have widgets that you would only like to appear on certain pages of your site, refer to this knowledge base article for instructions on configuring widget "visibility."
In the Renovation theme, there are three widget areas – Slider, Left Sidebar, and Bottom Row. Generally, the Slider area is reserved for image slider widgets.*
Adding a widget
- Go to the left navigation bar, click on the arrow to the right of Appearance and then click on Widgets.
- Click on the dropdown, ∨, next to either the Left Sidebar or Bottom Row depending on where you would like the widget to be displayed.
- Click on the +, Add Block, and select the desired block. You can also select the Legacy Widget block to add legacy widgets designed for earlier versions of WordPress.
- Click Update in the top right corner to save your changes.
- NOTE: only image sliders created through MetaSlider are able to be placed in the Slider widget.*
To delete a widget permanently, click on the widget and select the three vertical dots to the right of the toolbar. Click Remove Block.
To move the widget to another location/area, click on the “s” shaped arrow in the toolbox. Select the widget area (Left Sidebar or Bottom Row) and the widget will move to the bottom of the widget list in that area. A check mark will also appear next to the area that the widget is in.
To make a widget inactive so it does not appear on the website but can be reactivated later, click on the Inactive Widgets area using the “move widget” step above.
