What should I do if my Mac cannot connect to the Windows Remote Desktop Service, or cannot access USB devices?

Some computers running macOS may fail to connect to the caen.midesktop.it.umich.edu connection server, or are unable to connect a USB device, and receive a "Cannot establish tunnel connection" error. In these situations, it is first recommended to make sure the most recent version of the VMware Horizon client is installed. If the problem persist, follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Close the VMware Horizon application.
  2. Go into System Preferences >> Security and Privacy in the macOS menu bar.
  3. Click the Privacy tab.
  4. Make sure that VMware Horizon is enabled under the Accessibility and Full Disk Access categories.
  5. Now click the General tab.
  6. If you see a message about VMware, Inc. being blocked, unlock the settings and click the Allow button to enable it:
