Tags windows

This article outlines the procedure for restoring the previous version of a file. This may be of use when a file is accidentally deleted, or a file was saved over a version that was needed. The location of the file within a Home or Shared drive is needed.

Windows 10

  1. Open the File Explorer (folder icon at the bottom of your screen).
  2. Navigate to the folder that contains the file you would like to restore.
  3. Right-click on the name of the folder.
  4. Click on Properties in the menu that appears.
  5. In the window that opens, click on the Previous Versions tab.
  6. A list of folders will appear with a date and time at some point in the past. Open the folder that is closest to the time you last worked on the file you need, then open the file.
  7. Open the file and save as a new copy to a present folder. Or, copy the file, minimize/ close the previous versions window, and paste the file to a location in your File Explorer.
