macOS 10.14+ and CrashPlan Desktop Backup

Environment

MacOS, CrashPlan

Issue

How to allow CrashPlan full disk access in macOS 10.14+ for personal computers. Note: systems in Izzy have this set for them with policy.

Resolution

Due to changes Apple introduced with Mojave, you will have to allow the full disk access privacy settings in order for CrashPlan to continue backing up your data. Until you take the following steps, data will NOT be backed-up:

  1. Open System Preferences (System Settings in macOS 13)
  2. Select “Security and Privacy”
  3. Click on “Privacy” tab
  4. Click on “Full Disk Access” (to the left)
  5. Check the box for “CrashPlan”
    1. Click the Plus in the bottom left to add the application if it does not show up in the list
  6. Reboot your computer for the changes to take effect
