Issue

Giving CrashPlan full disk access in macOS 10.14+ for personal computers. Note: Managed systems in Izzy have this set for them with policy.

Resolution

To ensure that your instructions are clear and usable for both older versions of macOS and the newer versions, you can provide detailed steps to cater to each version separately. Here is an updated version of the KB:

Granting Full Disk Access for CrashPlan Backup

Due to changes Apple introduced with macOS Mojave (10.14), you must allow the full disk access privacy settings for CrashPlan to continue backing up your data. Without these steps, data will NOT be backed up.

Follow these instructions based on your macOS version:

For macOS Mojave (10.14) to macOS Monterey (12):

  1. Open System Preferences:

    • Click on the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen.
    • Select “System Preferences.”
  2. Navigate to Security and Privacy:

    • Select “Security and Privacy.”
    • Click on the “Privacy” tab.
  3. Enable Full Disk Access:

    • In the left sidebar, scroll down and click on “Full Disk Access.”
    • Check the box next to “CrashPlan.”
    • If “CrashPlan” is not listed, click the Plus (+) button at the bottom left to add the application manually.
  4. Reboot Your Computer:

    • Restart your computer to apply the changes.

For macOS Ventura (13) and later:

  1. Open System Settings:

    • Click on the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen.
    • Select “System Settings.”
  2. Navigate to Privacy & Security:

    • Scroll down and select “Privacy & Security.”
  3. Enable Full Disk Access:

    • In the right pane, scroll down to “Full Disk Access” under the “Privacy” section.
    • Click slider icon next to “CrashPlan.”
    • If “CrashPlan” is not listed, click the Plus (+) button at the bottom left to add the application manually.
  4. Reboot Your Computer:

    • Restart your computer to apply the changes.

By following the steps above corresponding to your macOS version, you will ensure CrashPlan has the necessary permissions to continue backing up your data.
