Receiving Emails Intended for Another Person

Issue

I received an email intended for another person, what should I do? This person might have the same or similar name or uniqnname.

Resolution

We cannot prevent someone from mistakenly sending emails to the wrong person. Here are some tips we recommend:

• If the email appears to be legitimate and you are comfortable doing so, you can email back letting the person know that they emailed the wrong person
  • Please refer to the safe computing phishing and suspicious email article for how to spot phishing or otherwise suspicious email
• If the content you received contains sensitive data, please contact ITS Service Center
  • Special note: Do not forward an email that contains sensitive data to the ITS Service Center
