Microsoft Teams: Where to Find Meeting Recording Files

Environment

Microsoft Teams

Issue

I recorded a Microsoft Teams meeting. Where do I find my recording file?

Resolution

Important: Only the meeting organizer can download the meeting recording.

Microsoft Teams meeting recordings are available in different places depending on the type of meeting:

  • The recording is always processed and saved in the meeting organizer's OneDrive (in a folder called "Recordings").
  • The recording will appear in the meeting chat or channel conversation (if you’re meeting in a channel).

Note: Guests and external attendees can view the recording only if it's explicitly shared with them.

  • For channel meetings, recordings will be stored in the channel's Files tab.
    • The Files tab stores all files for the channel. Everyone who is a part of the channel will have permission to edit and view the recording.
  • For non-channel meetings, including those created in a Teams chat or via the Google Calendar add-on, the recording will be stored in the "Recordings" folder in the meeting organizer's OneDrive.
    • Everyone invited to the meeting can view the recording.
    • If you were invited to the meeting, you can access the recording through the Files or Shared tabs in the chat, channel, or meeting details.

Note: Captions aren't captured in recordings or downloads. However, you can turn them on while viewing a recording in Teams or in the browser on its Microsoft 365 video player page.
