MiWorkspace Windows Office 365
Issue
Visio and Project 2010 and 2013 are not supported and not available in MiWorkspace. Project and Visio 2016 are compatible with Office 2016 and Office 365 ProPlus, but existing MSI-based MiWorkspace installations must be replaced with a 64-bit click-to-run (C2R) installation to work with Office 365. Project and Visio 2019 & 2021 are only compatible with Office 365.
Resolution
Review the scenarios below for information on how existing installations of different versions of Project or Visio interact with deployment of Office 365 ProPlus on MiWorkspace Windows devices:
Project 2010/2013 or Visio 2010/2013
If a machine still has Project 2010 / 2013 or Visio 2010 / 2013, Office 365 ProPus will not install until these applications are uninstalled.
MiWorkspace prevents installation of Office 365 ProPlus on these devices to prevent customers from losing access to their Project and Visio. Customers must either uninstall Project and Visio or upgrade to a newer version (2016, 2019, 2021) prior to installing Office 365. Keep in mind that a license is required to upgrade from a previous version to the 2016 version, and will most likely need to be re-purchased from ITS Software Services (see: https://software.its.umich.edu/Portal) or have a license provisioned from ITAM.
Project 2016 or Visio 2016
Existing MiWorkspace Project 2016 & Visio 2016 installations are automatically uninstalled when Office 365 is installed. Following the Office 365 installation, a 365-compatible "click-to-run" (C2R) installation of the respective Project Pro 2016 or Visio Pro 2016 will be deployed to the device automatically. It may take several hours following the Office 365 installation before the C2R Pro version of Project or Visio re-installs. If the customers had Project Standard 2016 or Visio Standard 2016 prior to the upgrade to Office 365, NIT will need to push the 2016 C2R compatible version of that "Standard" version to the machine. The auto-installation of compatible C2R versions is only in place for the "Pro" versions of 2016.
NOTE: Hand-installed installations of Project Pro and Visio Pro 2016 will not be automatically converted to a C2R install unless the 2016 version of Visio Pro or Project Pro has been assigned to the device in Otto. Also, the C2R deployments of Visio Standard and Project Standard 2016 are only available as push deployments from Otto.
Project 2019/2021 or Visio 2019/2021
Project 2019 or 2021 and Visio 2019 or 2021 (Standard and Pro) can only be installed on devices that already have the MiWorkspace Office 365 package installed. A license must be acquired prior to installation of the specific version of Project or Visio Standard or Pro 2019 or 2021. Licenses can be purchased from the ITS Software Services software portal or acquired from ITAM for ITAM Units.
