Sites @ Home Laptop Loaner Program
Issue
Headphones plugged into the headphone jack of the Dell Latitude 5400 laptops used by Sites @ Home do not play sound as expected. Instead, sound continues to play via the internal speaker.
Resolution
An updated audio driver is available from Dell which may resolve the issue. Sites @ Home users may follow the steps below to download and install the updated audio driver. Note that the computer will be restarted while completing these steps.
- Click this link to download the updated audio driver installer to your computer: Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Driver_2GRMM_WIN_6.0.8940.1_A07_01.
- Open the Downloads folder by clicking the File Explorer icon on your Windows Taskbar and navigating to Downloads
- Double-click the Realtek-High-Definition-Audio-Driver_2GRMM_WIN_6.0.8940.1_A07_01.exe file that is in the Downloads folder. You should be prompted if you want to allow the app to make changes to your device. Click Yes.
- The Dell Update Package for the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver will open. Click Install.
- After several seconds, the Realtek Audio Driver Setup will open. Click Next on the Welcome screen.
- After the Welcome screen, a Custom Installation Help screen will appear that describes the installation procedure. The setup will first uninstall the existing driver. Following the uninstall, the computer will restart, and the installation will begin. Click Next to start the uninstall.
- At the end of the uninstall process, click "Yes, I want to restart my computer now." and click Finish.
- After the computer restarts, sign in. The installation program will start automatically. Click Next to start the installation process.
- At the end of the install process, click "Yes, I want to restart my computer now." and click Finish.
- The computer should restart. Following the restart, the headphone should correctly detect when headphones are plugged in.
Additional Information
Sites @ Home users are administrators on the Sites @ Home computer that they set up and should be able to complete these installation steps on their own.
