Google Labs Availability at U-M

Environment

Google, Google Labs

Issue

Can I access and use the products available through Google Labs (labs.google) with my U-M Google account?

Resolution

According to Google, "Google Labs is where you can discover and try Google's latest AI experimental products and help shape the future of AI technology. Get a first look at AI experiments from across the company, give feedback directly to the teams who built them, and help us responsibly scale these technologies into the products you use every day."

Google Labs is not covered under the university's Google Workspace agreement. It and its products should be considered experimental and neither a Core nor an Additional Service (unless otherwise stated). This means we do not provide support for any product created under Labs, nor receive support from Google for any issues that may arise from your use of it. It also should not be used for sensitive data of any kind.

Example products created under Google Labs include Jules (jules.google), Colaboratory/Colab (colab.research.google.com), and Stitch (stitch.withgoogle.com). (More examples)

Note: Several products initially developed under Google Labs are now considered Core or Additional Services, including NotebookLM (Core, supported) and Google Vids (Additional, not supported). However, it is safe to assume that the majority of products available under Google Labs are not supported at U-M.
