Panorama: "Document is Malformed" Error

Environment

Yuja Panorama, Microsoft Word

Issue

Word documents may be flagged by Panorama as "The Document is Malformed," due to structural or coding issues. However, there is not a reliable way to pinpoint the associated issue. 

Resolution

Panorama has a webpage with resolution suggestions. If these don't work, try the following procedure:

  • Save the .DOCX files as PDFs.
  • Upload these new PDFs to the course site and run Panorama.
  • For each file, use the OCR Formats option to convert the files back to Word (The documentation says "Panorama for Students," but it should work fine for faculty/staff as well.)
  • Upload the new Word file and delete the PDF.
