Export from Google Slides

Environment

Google Slides

Issue

You need to export documents from Google Slides while ensuring they are accessible.

Resolution

If you have taken actions to make your Google slideshow accessible (used headings correctly, added alt to images, run a Grackle check, etc.), be aware that some of this accessibility information can be lost on export.

Google Slides to PowerPoint

Exporting from Google Docs to PowerPoint preserves some structural and accessibility information, but not all. This applies when you choose File > Download > Microsoft PowerPoint.

The exported PowerPoint file will preserve:

  • Page title structure
  • List structure
  • Image alt text
  • Document title

The exported PowerPoint will lose:

  • Table structure

Google Slides to PDF

Exporting directly from Google Docs to PDF will lose most structural and accessibility information. This applies when you choose File > Download > PDF.

Grackle Slides to PDF

Using Grackle to export to PDF preserves most structural and accessibility information. This applies when you launch Grackle Docs, check for accessibility, and choose Export to PDF.

The exported PDF (using Grackle) will preserve:

  • Structure including headings, reading order, lists, etc.
  • Image alt text
  • Document title
  • Document language
  • Table structure
