Document Imaging: Set ImageNow Printer to Color for the Perceptive Content Client

Environment

Document Imaging / Perceptive Content Desktop Client

Issue

How do I use the ImageNow Printer in color?

How do I reset my ImageNow Printer color settings after having a new desktop client installed?

Perceptive Content/ImageNow printer is producing documents in black and white and/or quality of the document is poor.

Resolution

Note: You need administrator rights on your computer in order to make the changes listed below. For most people, this means getting help from MiWorkspace support staff or your local unit IT staff.

  1. Close Perceptive Content
  2. Locate the application called Notepad on the computer
  3. Right-click on Notepad and select Run as administrator (A user account screen will appear. You will need to put in your password.)
  4. Click Yes when prompted to run as administrator
  5. Select the File menu item and choose Open from the drop-down
  6. Navigate to this location: C:\Program Files (x86)\ImageNow\etc
At the bottom of the window, in the box to the right of the File name, select "All Files (*.*)" from the drop-down list
Double-click on the only file in the folder which is called inowprint.ini
  7. Make the following two changes to the file:
    1. In the top section called "Graphics settings", remove the * which appears immediately before [Devmode settings]
    2. Further down in the file, in the section called "Save settings", change where it says Color reduction=BW to Color reduction=color. If Color reduction=BW is not present in inowprint.ini, you will need to add Color reduction=color under the [Save] section of the file. It does not need to be on any specific line under [Save].
  8. Save the changes and close the file
  9. To verify the change
    1. Open Printers & Scanners, then ImageNow Printer, then Manage, then Printing Preferences
      1. On this menu, in the Paper/Quality tab check that Color is selected, and in the Compression tab check that the Color Images and Greyscale Images are set to High Quality JPEG
  10. Launch Perceptive Content and use the ImageNow printer to print in color. (Note; the application you are printing from should also be set to print in color)

Additional Information

The application you are printing from (Chrome, Adobe Reader, etc) should also be set to print in color.

Screenshots to go along with the above instructions can be found in this how to guide.

Note: If this error appears when saving the changes to the inowprint.ini file: C:\Program Files (x86)\ImageNow\etc\inowprint.ini You do not have permissions to open the file. See the owner of the file or an administrator to obtain permission, check the Security Properties on the ImageNow folder.

  1. To do this, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86), right-click on the folder called ImageNow and select Properties
  2. Select the Security tab
  3. In the Group or user names box, select the entry for Administrators
  4. In the Permissions for Administrators box, verify everything except for Special permissions are selected (a checkbox should show next to all items)
  5. If anything needs updated, click Edit and make the appropriate selection
  6. Attempt to modify the inowprint.ini file again and see if error still occurs
  7. If error occurs again, repeat these steps but this time, instead of selecting Administrators, select Users
  8. Ensure Modify is selected
  9. Update if needed and then attempt to modify the inowprint.ini file again
  10. Once you are able to successfully modify the file, revert any changes made to the Security Properties on the ImageNow folder
