Issue
The "Templates" option is missing when composing an email.
How can I create and use "Templates" in Gmail?
Resolution
Note: The following instructions apply to personal mailboxes and shared mailboxes, including delegated access to mailboxes.
Note: The option to create & use Gmail templates is not available by default, so it must first be enabled.
Enable the Templates Feature
- Open Gmail
- Click the Settings icon (i.e., gear icon) in the top-right corner and select "See all settings".
- Click the "Advanced" tab.
- Select the "Enable" radio button for "Templates".
- Click the "Save Changes" button near the bottom of the page.
Create or Update a Template
- Open Gmail.
- Select the "Compose" option to open a "New Message" window.
- Enter the email content (e.g., text, images, etc) you wish to use as a template.
- Select the "More options" menu (i.e., 3 vertical dots icon).
- Select "Templates".
- Select "Save draft as template".
- Choose an option:
- To create a new template, click "Save as new template".
- To update a previously saved template, click the name of the template you wish to update followed by clicking the "Save" button in the "Overwrite saved template?" window.
Insert a Template
- Open Gmail.
- Select the "Compose" option to open a "New Message" window.
- Select the "More options" menu (i.e., 3 vertical dots icon).
- Select "Templates".
- Click the name of the template you wish to insert in your email.
Delete a Template
- Open Gmail.
- Select the "Compose" option to open a "New Message" window.
- Select the "More options" menu (i.e., 3 vertical dots icon).
- Select "Templates".
- Select "Delete template".
- Click the name of the template you wish to delete.
- Click the "Delete" button in the "Delete saved template?" window.
