Issue
There are multiple Microsoft Teams icons. How to tell which Microsoft Teams icon / application to use?
Resolution
MiWorkspace and Platform-as-a-Service Windows customers may see three different Microsoft Teams icons in their Start Menu.
Microsoft Teams has three different applications with the same name. This information may help to decipher which icon / application to choose:
- Teams Icon of a White Square and a Purple T is the "Chat" app.
- This is only for chatting and not the actual Teams Meetings app. (Windows 11 only)
- Teams icon of a Purple Square with a White T is the "Classic" Teams app, which is being retired by Microsoft and will stop working March 31, 2024.
- Teams icon of a Purple Square with a White T and the word "NEW" under it is the new Microsoft Teams application.
- It will appear as "Microsoft Teams (work or school)" and is what customers should use moving forward to access UM Teams.
Note: the "Classic Teams" application will be removed after 4/1/2024.
All machines will receive the "New" Teams either from normal Microsoft updates or the MiWorkspace application deployment.
