Environment
U-M Microsoft (Office) 365, MiWorkspace
Issue
Microsoft Office 365 is available to all MiWorkspace customers, however there are some potential compatibility issues for customers who use macros and add-ins.
Resolution
- Office 365 will uninstall previous versions of Office.
- Microsoft Project / Visio version 2010 or 2013 are incompatible with Office 365. Those versions of the Project/Visio software will need to be uninstalled before Office 365 will install.
- Units with these older versions of Project or Visio will need to purchase licensing for newer versions of these products. 2016 and 2019 are compatible with Office 365.
- Units can purchase Project & Visio licenses from ITS Software Services.
- The MiWorkspace installation of Office 365 is 64-bit. Customers who use 32-bit macros or add-ins in Office 2016 should confirm their functionality in Office 365.
- Customers who use the SAP BPC add-in for Office will need to update to the “SAP BPC EPM Add-In for Office 365 10.0.0.10499”
- Customers who use an Oracle ODBC connection with Office applications should make sure to use the right driver. For Office 2016, the 32-bit Oracle ODBC driver should be used and for Office 365 the 64-bit Oracle ODBC driver should be used. The Oracle 19c client software includes both the 32-bit and 64-bit clients. It is also available in Software Center if anyone needs it that doesn’t already have it installed.
- Office 365 includes Microsoft Teams. Customers who are unable to upgrade to Office 365 at this time can still use the Microsoft Teams web client at: http://teams365.umich.edu
- Office 365 is a subscription-based product that is licensed to U-M students, faculty, and staff. The product must be activated prior to use by signing in with an @umich.edu email address and password. On MiWorkspace devices, the activation is designed to occur automatically, but users may need to complete a 2-factor authentication using DUO to complete the activation.
- Customers can have up to 5 installations per device type (5 computer installations and 5 tablet/mobile installations) across all of their MacOS and Windows devices (University & Personal).
