Issue
How to turn on and off the "vacation" or "Out of Office" message in MCommunity for auto-reply to incoming messages.
Resolution
Turn On Vacation Responder
- Log in to MCommunity (mcommunity.umich.edu).
- Click My Profile (upper right-hand corner) then click Edit my information and away message (you will have to enter your password again).
- Scroll down to Away Message.
- Click the On radio button to turn ON your away message.
- Select a Begin Date.
- Select an End Date or check the Indefinite End Date box.
- Enter the message you want people to receive.
- Try to make it simple.
- Multiple paragraphs or formatted characters can cause the message to display improperly.
- Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
Turn Off Vacation Responder
- Log in to MCommunity (mcommunity.umich.edu).
- Click My Profile (upper right-hand corner) then click Edit my information and away message (you will have to enter your password again).
- Scroll down to Away Message.
- Click the OFF radio button.
- This will not delete the message text from your entry.
- Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
Note: We strongly recommend that you use MCommunity to set your away message rather than Gmail's native option.
