Turn On and Off the Vacation/Out-of-Office Message in MCommunity

Issue

How to turn on and off the "vacation" or "Out of Office" message in MCommunity for auto-reply to incoming messages.

Resolution

Turn On Vacation Responder

  1. Log in to MCommunity (mcommunity.umich.edu).
  2. Click My Profile (upper right-hand corner) then click Edit my information and away message (you will have to enter your password again).
  3. Scroll down to Away Message.
  4. Click the On radio button to turn ON your away message.
  5. Select a Begin Date.
  6. Select an End Date or check the Indefinite End Date box.
  7. Enter the message you want people to receive.
    1. Try to make it simple. 
    2. Multiple paragraphs or formatted characters can cause the message to display improperly.
  8. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Turn Off Vacation Responder

  1. Log in to MCommunity (mcommunity.umich.edu).
  2. Click My Profile (upper right-hand corner) then click Edit my information and away message (you will have to enter your password again).
  3. Scroll down to Away Message.
  4. Click the OFF radio button.
    1. This will not delete the message text from your entry.
  5. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Note: We strongly recommend that you use MCommunity to set your away message rather than Gmail's native option.
