Google: Shared Drive Sharing and Permissions

Environment

U-M Google, shared drives

Issue

Information on Google shared drive permissions and sharing

Resolution

Refer to Shared Drives in U-M Google for information on permissions and sharing in shared drives.

Important things to note:

  • All members (at the shared drive level) have access to the same set of files and folders by default, regardless of their assigned role.
    • However, if a Manager has created a limited/restricted access folder and restricted certain members' access to it, those members will not be able to view the folder's contents.
    • By default, only Managers can view and manage all limited access folders in a shared drive.
  • It is possible to share at the file and folder levels with someone not in your shared drive (including external, non-UM collaborators) for more granular permissions.
