Zoom: Zoom for Google Workspace Add-on Meetings Not Syncing

Environment

U-M Zoom, Google Calendar

Issue

My Zoom meetings scheduled with the Zoom for Google Workspace add-on don't appear in the Upcoming meetings section of my U-M Zoom account. However, I find them in the Previous meetings section instead, scheduled for December 31, 1979, with the title "Google Calendar Meeting (not synced)." How do I resolve this?

Resolution

  • When using the Zoom for Google Workspace add-on, Zoom creates a placeholder meeting with the topic "Google Calendar Meeting (not synced)" and the date December 31, 1979, to store the meeting settings you have entered until you save the calendar event.
    • This occurs whether you create the meeting using the add-on by clicking Add video conferencingZoom Meeting in the calendar event itself OR by clicking Add Meeting in the add-on section of the right side panel of your calendar.
    • When you finish creating the meeting by saving the calendar event, the placeholder meeting updates so the meeting topic matches the name and date of your event, overwriting the placeholder topic and date.
  • In some cases, the add-on may not finish syncing with Zoom, so while the meeting ID will still work, it will remain stored as "Google Calendar Meeting (not synced)" in your Zoom meetings list. This can happen because the calendar event wasn't saved properly or the add-on's login credentials need to be refreshed.

If you experience this issue, it is recommended that you try the following:

  1. Go to U-M Google Calendar and ensure you are signed in with your @umich.edu account.
  2. Click the Zoom icon in the right side panel.
    • If you cannot find a right side panel, you may have hidden it. Click the Show side panel (<) icon in the bottom right corner of the page to reopen it.
  3. Click the three-dot icon in the top right corner and select Sign out.
  4. The side panel will refresh. Click the Sign in button.
  5. A new window should appear asking you to confirm the connection between your Zoom and Google accounts. Click Confirm..
    • Ensure that the two accounts listed are both your @umich.edu accounts.
    • If a pop-up window doesn't appear, ensure your browser allows pop-ups to open and repeat step 4.
  6. You should receive an "Authorization Successful!" message in the pop-up. You can now close it.
  7. The side panel should refresh after connecting to your account. It may take a few minutes to refresh.
  8. You will need to resync the "Google Calendar Meeting (not synced)" meetings once you have signed back in:
    1. Click the event in your calendar and edit it.
    2. Click the Update meeting button at the top of the side panel.
    3. Click Save if prompted.
