U-M Zoom
Issue
- I received an email about a Zoom cloud recording for which I was not present.
- I have a video of someone in my cloud recordings, and I did not authorize them to record to my account.
Resolution
Note: Cloud recordings are not automatically published in Canvas, so unexpected or accidental recordings may be deleted before students can view them.
It is possible that the following settings are enabled for the meeting:
- All participants to join before host
- Automatically record meeting
If both settings are enabled, participants can access the meeting link without a host present, and once they enter the room, the recording will begin.
To disable these settings and prevent future unwanted recordings:
- Go to https://umich.zoom.us/meeting.
- Hover over the title of the meeting you would wish to modify.
- Click Edit.
- If this is a recurring meeting, ensure you click Edit Entire Series when prompted.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and either uncheck "Allow participants to join [anytime]", "Automatically record meeting," or both.
- Click Save.
To disable these settings at the account level to prevent future unwanted recordings for all meetings you create/host:
- Click Settings from the left navigation.
- Click the Meeting tab.
- Click Schedule Meeting from the smaller left navigation within the settings.
- Toggle Allow participants to join before host off.
- Click the Recording tab.
- Scroll to "Cloud recording" and toggle Automatic recording off.
