Slack: Limiting Channel Access for Members in a Workspace

Environment

U-M Slack

Issue

  • How do I restrict channel access for workspace members?
  • How do I invite a member so they only have access to one channel in a workspace?

Resolution

Restrict Access to Multiple Specific Channels

Restrict Access to a Single Channel

  1. Create a private channel in your workspace.
  2. Submit a multi-workspace channel request to request the channel be shared with the Maize & Blue (M&B) Workspace.
  3. When the request is complete and the channel has been shared, invite the user to the channel via the M&B workspace.

If the M&B private channel process isn't convenient, another option is to invite the user as a guest using a non-UM email. Refer to Invite Non-UMICH Email Addresses as Guests to a Channel.
