How do I link the navigation headings on my WordPress website?

Navigation headings are not automatically linked by default; nothing appears when hovering over the headings which contain a drop-down arrow. However, clicking will open the drop-down child menu items that are linked to the heading.

If you desire that the heading be linked to a specific page, follow the steps below:

  1. Create and publish a new page.
  2. Go to Appearance > Menus.
  3. Under Add menu items, check the box next to the new page, and click the Add to Menu button.
  4. Under Menu structure, click and drag the new menu item to arrange as desired.
  5. Add the page to the menu a second time:

  1. Click and drag the second item under the first, and drag it to the right so it becomes a sub item:

  1. Click the Save Menu button.

Creating grandchild menu items

You can designate a sub item as a grandchild by dragging it one further increment to the right in a similar fashion as above:

Note: Grandchild menu items do not show up on the same main navigation menu in the header. Only after you click on the child page, the grandchild page is under then the grandchild page will show on the sub-navigation menu:

The Contact page will not show up on the main navigation menu, but it will show up after clicking on the About Web Publishing page:

Contact will show up below on the left side of the screen.
