How do I enable Piazza 1.3 in my Canvas course?

Piazza Options in Canvas

Currently, both Piazza 1.1 and Piazza 1.3 are available as separate LTIs in Canvas. If you have already enabled Piazza for your winter course, no action is required. It will now appear as Piazza 1.1 in the course navigation. Existing Piazza 1.1 assignments and courses are unaffected. However, if you are creating a NEW Piazza course within your Canvas course, we encourage you to enable Piazza 1.3.

Setting up a Piazza 1.3 course in Canvas is now more streamlined, with increased information transfers from Canvas, reducing manual input for instructors including Automatic Roster Sync which synchronizes adds and drops without manual instructor involvement.

Action Required when migrating from Piazza 1.1 to Piazza 1.3

Migrating courses from Piazza 1.1 to 1.3 will require instructors to reconfigure their courses as if they are setting up a new class. This is a one-time process to ensure proper functionality with the new version.

Support and Resources

If you encounter any issues or require assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to:

Piazza - Anytime and available during U-M Season Days. Please note, if contacting Piazza support, an email address and a course name will be needed for Piazza support to have access.

ITS Service Center - Closed during U-M Season Days

Note: Piazza Timeline

For the Winter term 2024, instructors can continue to use the original Piazza external tool, now called Piazza 1.1, or enable the new Piazza 1.3. Piazza 1.1 will be removed after the conclusion of Winter 2024 and before the start of Spring and Spring/Summer 2024 terms. From that point on, only Piazza 1.3 will be available.
