IRAF plot window stops responding after sending print job with :.snap command

Symptoms

After a plot is opened in xgterm, users can print it to the system default printer using the :.snap command. In some cases, the plot window will hang, but the print job will go through.

 IRAF plot window hangs after entering the :.snap command. Print job still goes to the printer and prints successfully.

Environment

  • macOS
  • Software: IRAF

Resolution

  1. Open the users login.cl file (found in the user's home directory) with vim or another text editor.
  2. Change these settings as follows (by default they are set to lp):
    • set printer = lpr
    • set stdplot = lpr
