Objective

How to log into your Windows PC from another computer.

Procedure

Before you begin, you need to enter your PC fully qualified domain name (This usually follows the naming convention of pcname.adsroot.itcs.umich.edu; For example Soc­213.adsroot.itcs.umich.edu).

Also, note that you need to have the U-M VPN (​http://documentation.its.umich.edu/vpn/vpn-download-windows-vpn-client) running when you are off campus.

  1. Start ​RemoteDesktopConnection on your PC. On Windows, search for Remote Desktop Connection.
  2. Log in using your umroot password and uniqname account. (If it does not show up, click on "use another account" and enter "umroot/'uniqname).
  3. You may be prompted about accepting a certificate depending on what operating system you are connecting from, Accept the certificate.
