Remotely access your Windows PC from another Windows PC

How to log into your Windows PC from another computer.

Directions

Before you begin, you need to need to know either the computer name, FQDN (fully qualified domain name), or IP address of the computer you want to connect to. Also, if you are off-campus, you'll need to first connect to the U-M VPN (​http://documentation.its.umich.edu/vpn/vpn-download-windows-vpn-client)

  1. In Windows, search for Remote Desktop Connection or go to Start Menu > Windows Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection
  2. Log in using your UMROOT password and uniqname account. (If it does not show up, click on "use another account" and enter "umroot/'uniqname).
  3. You may be prompted about accepting a certificate depending on what operating system you are connecting from, Accept the certificate

Please note: Only one person can be logged into a Windows 10 computer at a time. It will ask you if you want to disconnect the sign-in user if they're already logged in-person
