Zoom crashes or no sound can be heard from speakers

Issue

Zoom crashes and/or users are unable to hear other meeting participants despite their speakers working with other apps.

Environment

Windows 11 computers that use Realtek audio devices, especially Dell laptops

Resolution

Disable Audio Enhancements for the built-in speakers by performing the following steps:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Click Sound
  3. In the Output section, locate the device's default speaker, for example, Speakers/Headphones Realtek(R) Audio
  4. Click the right arrow icon to the right of the speaker's name to access that speaker's properties
  5. Next to Audio Enhancements, click the drop-down menu and select Off
