Google: Adding/Removing Shared Drive Manager Reverted After 24 Hours

Summary

This article explains why, after adding/removing a Manager from a Google shared drive, those actions may be reverted by the ITS Shared Drive Manager tool and how to prevent this issue from recurring.

Issue

I added/removed a Google shared drive Manager using the Google Drive interface, but the change was reverted after 24 hours (i.e., the Manager was removed or readded). How do I add/remove a Manager on my shared drive without this happening again?

Resolution

If your Google shared drive was created after January 3, 2023 or if it has been imported into the tool, you must use the ITS Shared Drive Manager tool to add/remove anyone with the Manager role. (This does not apply to other roles within the shared drive, such as Content Manager, which can still be changed within Google.)

If you attempt to add/remove a Manager from a shared drive within Google (via the Drive interface), the ITS Shared Drive Manager tool will revert that action within 24 hours so that what is in the tool aligns with what is in Google. Using the ITS Shared Drive Manager tool should eliminate frequent reversion of adding/removing Managers.
