How to reset a forgotten UMICH password starting February 25, 2026.

Resolution

Starting February 25, 2026, you can reset a forgotten UMICH password in Okta. Note that in order to reset your own password, you must have previously set account recovery information; otherwise, contact the ITS Service Center for assistance.
 

Reset Your Forgotten Password Yourself

  1. Navigate to okta.umich.edu (opens in new window).
  2. On the Okta Sign-In page, enter your uniqname and click Next, if prompted. Okta may remember you, in which case you can skip this step.
  3. When prompted to enter your password, click Forgot password? (located below the Verify button).

Note: If you are not prompted to enter your password, click the Password option. If the Password option does not display, click Back to sign in and then select the Password option.

  1. Click either the Email or Phone option.
    1. Email: Click the Reset password link in the email. Alternatively, click Enter a verification code instead on the Okta Sign-In screen, enter the code located at the bottom of the email message, and then click Verify.
    2. Phone: Enter the verification code sent to you via SMS and then click Verify.
  2. Enter a new password and then re-enter the password in the fields provided.
  3. Click Reset Password.
