U-M Google, Shared Accounts
Issue
How do I change the name of my U-M Google Shared Account?
Resolution
To change the name of a U-M Google Shared Account, you must be an account owner and have an eligible university role (i.e., faculty or regular staff).
It is important to note that you can only change the Shared Account name displayed in Google. The name that is displayed in MCommunity cannot be changed.
If you are an account owner:
- Go to the ITS Shared Account Manager tool.
- Important: Shared Accounts not imported into the ITS Shared Account Manager tool must do so before resetting the password. Refer to Google: Renew a Shared Account for instructions.
- Find your Shared Account in the list under "Google Shared Accounts You Own" and click Edit. (If you do not find it, you are not an owner, or it hasn't been imported yet.)
- Click Edit Shared Account.
- Enter the updated name in the "Provide a name for your Shared Account" field.
- Shared Account names may only contain alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), dashes (—), ampersands (&), and spaces.
- Select I Confirm from the confirmation drop-down.
- Click Edit Shared Account.
It can take up to 24 hours for your Shared Account's name change to display in Google.
