Zoom: Request a Large Meeting License

Environment

U-M Zoom

Issue

  • How do I request a Zoom large meeting license?
  • How do I increase my meeting participant limit from 300 to 500 or 1k?

Resolution

  • Note: This license type is different than a webinar license. Large meeting licenses aim to increase the 300-participant limit while maintaining meeting-exclusive features (such as breakout rooms).
  • There are very few large meeting licenses that increase the participant limit to 500 or, in rarer cases, 1,000. Faculty with large class sizes take priority over other requests for these licenses. Both large meeting licenses (500 and 1k) require approval. They are issued for one academic term for classes or one week, aligned with your event.
  • Ensure you have reviewed the Zoom: Additional Licenses Available at U-M article to understand the differences between a large meeting license and a webinar license.
  • To request a Zoom large meeting license:
    1. Go to the ITS Zoom License Manager tool.
    2. Click Large Meeting 500 / 1,000 under "Request a new add-on license."
      • Note: This option will be greyed out if no licenses are available, and a message will appear stating this.
    3. Thoroughly review the information provided at the top of the form.
    4. Select your desired participant limit (500 or 1,000).
    5. Select whether this license is for an academic class (Yes or No).
      • If yes, select how long the license is needed (Entire academic term or Single class activity or event).
        • If the entire academic term, select which academic term from the drop-down that appears.
        • If only for a single class activity/event, enter the event date in the field provided.
      • If no, enter the event date in the field provided.
    6. Check the two confirmation boxes to verify that you have reviewed all relevant information and understand the license's term limit.
    7. Click Submit request.
  • After your request is submitted and reviewed by the U-M Zoom team, you will receive an ITS Service Center ticket confirming it has been applied to your account.
    • If an extension or reschedule is needed, submit a new request using the ITS Zoom License Manager tool.
    • If you'd like to remove the license before its deadline, click Remove next to it in the tool.
