Summary
Researchers using study websites for recruitment can take advantage of Google Analytics (GA) to get viewing statistics on their website. This includes things like how many views in each page, trends over time, how many clicks and scrolling down events, the user's city/state/country, type of device used (e.g. iPhone vs. Linux Desktop), etc. Typically the tracking identifiers, or property and stream, are created under the researcher's GA account. However, if the researchers use Michigan Creative to manage their website, or if they wish to combine data from multiple websites, that property needs to move from their account to the more general account. This article describes how to move a Google Analytics property between accounts, without loosing existing analytics data.
Steps
Setup Permissions
- The person moving the property must be administrator in both accounts, the one hosting the property and the one where it will go
- Login to http://analytics.google.com with your UMich level-1 account
- If needed, select the property from the menu on the top left

- Click the gear icon on the left side bar (at the bottom) and go to Admin -> Property -> Property Access Management

- Enter the email account of the user who will move the property. Be sure to select th "Administrator" box before saving
- Repeat the previous step to add the user to your account as admin, by going to Admin -> Account -> Account Access Management
- Note: After the property is moved, you can remove the user's admin access from your account
