Lecture Rewind is a follow-along learning tool that allows students to absorb material presented during class time at their own pace - without drawing unnecessary attention to themselves. From their own device, any student enrolled in the class has the ability to rewind the slides or whiteboard image to review any content that has already been presented during class, but may no longer be visible in the room. They can even zoom in on any image to get a clearer view of diagrams, small writing, or complex equations.
While there is no audio component to the feature, students are able to see machine-generated transcription of the lecture while it is still in progress, in case something was hard to hear.

How do students access Lecture Rewind?
Students can access Lecture Rewind by using the Lecture Recording navigation tab from Canvas Course Site while class is in session. Selecting the Lecture Rewind button will open the viewer, allowing students to independently rewind, zoom, & see machine-generated transcription of the lecture while it is happening.

Lecture Rewind is accessible only to enrolled students during class time and only if recording was previously scheduled in that course’s Lecture Recording site, regardless of whether that recording is ever published. The availability of this feature is at the discretion of the instructional team; any student requests will be redirected to them for approval.
How do instructors enable Lecture Rewind for their courses?
Most schools and colleges using the Lecture Recording service have the Lecture Rewind feature enabled by default, but not all. Due to a number of factors, there are some instances where it may not be available.
If Lecture Rewind was not enabled when the Lecture Recording site was created,
- Go to your Lecture Recording My Sites page.
- Select the Site Info option attached to any course.
- In the Other Options module, check the box for Allow Lecture Rewind.
- Press Save at the bottom of the page.

Only site owners (typically instructors) and designated site managers (typically GSIs or Program coordinators) can make this change. The Lecture Recording Team will never give permissions or make changes to site settings without approval from a member of the listed instructional team. Should anybody ask for this kind of access, the site owners and managers will always be consulted prior to any action.
