What is the Course Approval Request Form (CARF) system?

The Course Approval Request Form (CARF) system is a way for College of Engineering departments to request and approve new courses, or modify/delete existing courses, and have those changes vetted and approved (or denied) by departmental and College curriculum committees. Generated documents are reviewed by the respective committees and, if approved, signed and sent to the University Registrar's Office where course information is updated in central data systems.

The system was updated in 2017 to replace a long-used Filemaker database. It relies on G Suite apps (forms, spreadsheets, and documents) and Google Apps Scripts to record information and prepare documents in a format accepted by the University Registrar's Office. If generated documents are downloaded as PDFs, electronic signatures can be applied, allowing for paperless delivery to the registrar.
