What should I know about FERPA before recording or streaming my lectures online?

As part of the commitment to maintaining the privacy of U-M students when recording or streaming lectures in an Engineering classroom, you should familiarize yourself with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

FERPA prohibits the release of student education records, for example, when discussing course work that is assigned a grade.

If you have any concerns about FERPA with regard to recording or streaming your course, contact your departmental administration for guidance.
