AI Suggestions for Lecture Recording Titles, Topics, and Descriptions

AI can now be used to suggest titles, topics, and descriptions for your Lecture Recordings. Adding these to your Lecture Recordings can help students and viewers know what is discussed in each one.

Titles

Adding a title to your Lecture Recordings will allow your viewers to more easily find specific lectures they want to revisit to better understand the material. The best titles will be in line with what would be expected of a journal or newspaper article; save specific subjects to be used as Topics. The system will generate three title suggestions based on the central theme of the Lecture Recording. You may still create your own if desired.

Topics

Topics act as a sort of tag that will give your viewers a high-level insight into what each Lecture Recording covers. The most effective topics will be between two and four words, and should only be longer if the specific concept requires it (e.g., Hubble’s Law of Cosmic Expansion). Anything longer should be saved for the Description. The system will generate six topic suggestions of no more than three words each. Topics can also be manually created one at a time by typing.

Descriptions

Descriptions are where a more detailed synopsis of the topics and perspectives viewers can expect from the Lecture Recording. The system will generate three description suggestions to give viewers an overview of what is discussed. The three options are one sentence (short), two sentences (medium), and three sentences (long).

To use the AI Suggestions feature, you must make a request to your Lecture Recording support team. Once enabled, the system will automatically generate suggestions for any new Lecture Recordings made in the site from that point on. Any existing Lecture Recordings will not automatically have AI Suggestions, and must be requested through the same support team.

Once AI Suggestions have been enabled for your Lecture Recording site...

  1. Go to the Edit page of any Lecture Recording in your site.
  2. Below the Title, Description, and Topics boxes, there will be a button labeled AI Suggestions. Clicking this button will open the list of options the generative AI came up with.
  3. Click the plus sign next to any suggestion in order to add it.
    1. Titles and Descriptions can be edited.
    2. Topics can be created by typing into the field, and then added by pressing the green button that appears.
  4. Press Save at the bottom of the screen to apply any changes made.

Availability of the AI Suggestions tool may depend on which school or college manages your Lecture Recording site. If you have any questions, please reach out to your Lecture Recording support team with any questions. If you are not sure which unit supports your site(s), send a message to caen-lecture-recording@umich.edu.
