I cannot log in to my EBD laptop from off campus after the migration to the Cisco VPN Management Tunnel. What should I do?

If an Engineering Base Desktop (EBD) laptop has been powered off during the DirectAccess to Cisco VPN Management Tunnel migration, the computer has not yet received the Cisco VPN Management Tunnel policies to facilitate off-campus access to on-campus resources.

If you find that you can no longer log in to your computer off campus, follow these steps:

  1. On the sign-in screen, disconnect your computer from any networks.
On the sign in screen after pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del in the bottom right corner you will see the option to connect to wifi networks. If you are connected to a network, disconnect now.

  2. Sign in to the computer using the account you would normally sign in with.
Doing so will use cached credentials. (credentials stored on the machine that work without access to Active Directory)  Please note this will only work if you’ve signed into the computer in the past using these credentials.

  3. Once logged in, reconnect to a wifi network. You can choose automatically reconnect when doing so.

  4. Sign in to a profile in the Cisco AnyConnect VPN application to connect to campus. UMVPN - All Traffic is a VPN profile that would work.

  5. Once the Cisco VPN link has been established, you can either:

    • Stay logged in and connected to the VPN for at least two hours to give the system time to get the updated Cisco VPN Management Tunnel policy.

    • Press the Windows Key+R to open a run dialog, and put in: gpupdate /force

    • Open the “Windows PowerShell” application, and run the following command to trigger an immediate policy update: gpupdate /force

  6. Reboot your computer.

You should now be able to log in normally, and automatic access to all campus resources should be working transparently once again.

If you still cannot log in normally, follow these steps one more time. If the problem persists, please contact your department IT support or the CAEN Help Desk.
