Connecting your Owl device to the MSetup wireless network

Tags owl

Summary

The only way an Owl device can currently connect to the university wireless network to download updates, is to connect to the MSetup network. This article will help you get connected.

Environment

The Meeting Owl device, a mobile device running either Android or iOS, and a computer with a web browser.

Directions

  1. Connect the USB cable between Owl and computer.

  2. Connect the power cable to the Owl and an outlet at the wall.

    • Wait until the Owl’s eye stop pulsing, and you hear a hoot sound.

  3. Download the Meeting Owl app from the Apple Store or Google Play store.

  4. Open the app, and select your Owl from the Nearby Owls list.

  5. Tap the gear icon in the upper right corner of the app, and tap on Network Settings.

  6. Write down the MAC address somewhere.

  7. On your computer, open up a browser, and go to the MSetup site:

    1. Under I need to connect my:, click on Other Device.

    2. Sign in with the uniqname that you wish to register this device under.

    3. Under Devices, click on Create new device.

    4. For the Device Name field, enter your department abbreviation and Owl. Example: LSATS OWL.

    5. In the MAC Address field, enter the address you recorded in step 6.

    6. Click Create Device.

  8. Go back to the Meeting Owl app on your mobile device.

  9. Select your Owl from the Nearby list. This may be labeled "Meeting Owl" followed by an 8-digit software serial number, or the name you previously gave your Owl.

  10. Under Wi-Fi, if it reads Not Connected, tap that line to connect. (Note: If you see MSetup, it means that this device has already been registered, and you are already connected.)

  11. Select MSetup from the network list.

Please note: Sometimes, the Owl device will not connect to MSetup right away. If it fails to connect after it's been registered on MSetup, disconnect it from power for a bit. Maybe a hour or two, and reconnect the power. Try connecting to MSetup again from the Meeting Owl app.
