Technology Services guidelines for warranties with technology purchases

Summary

This document outlines what warranties should be purchased as per LSA policy.  The following criteria will assist in determining if a warranty is needed. 

Please note with warranty purchases, any asset will need to be tagged accordingly in the TDX inventory system.  

LSA TS maintains a 4 year lifecycle for hardware.  Please ensure 4-year warranties are chosen when necessary. If departments do not purchase these warranties, they will be responsible for the cost of any repairs, accidental or otherwise.

Guidelines

  • All computers and tablet devices 
    • 4-Year Institutional AppleCare+ needs to be purchased for MacOS and iOS devices, and should not be included in the price of the device when recording it's TDX asset record.
    • Enterprise machines from Dell will have 4-year Pro-Support Plus included, but one should confirm when requesting a quote for a non-standard model. 
  • Monitors over $1000 in cost:
    • Monitors that cost under $1000 do not require warranty purchase.
    • Only monitors with a warranty require a TDX Asset Record.
  • Research hardware over $1000:
    • Any instrumentation or hardware purchases exceeding $1000 or more. 
    • Tracking instrumentation in the CLIF notes KB is required.
