Cannot view Degree Audit Checklist

When trying to view a Degree Audit Checklist in the Undergraduate Student Advising File, a new tab with a PDF version of the report is supposed to open. This is no longer working in Chrome for some users.

Symptoms

When clicking "View" on a report, a blank tab opens with a grey background and the tab is titled DocumentHandler.ashx. This is mostly the case with reports generated after December 2019.

Environment

Chrome, Undergraduate Student Advising File, Degree Audit Checklist

Cause

There is a setting in Chrome that is blocking the reports from viewing properly.

Resolution

Turn off the setting called Make Searches and Browsing Better in Chrome:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Visit this site (copy and paste exactly into URL bar, then press Enter): chrome://settings/syncSetup
  3. There should be an option called "Make searches and browsing better (Sends URLs of pages you visit to Google)" near the bottom of the list of settings.
  4. Turn off that setting. The off position is the left-side, and the slide will appear grey instead of blue.
  5. Close any open checklist tabs, then re-open a degree audit checklist. There is no need to generate a new report. A report that was encountering the error should now be able to open.

Additional notes

Clearing the browser history, cookies, and cache has not helped. Neither has updating to the latest version of Chrome, or resetting the iteration of Chrome.

Other workarounds include using a different web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox, or downloading the file to open in Adobe Acrobat.
