Transferring Gmail and Google Drive data with Google Takeout

Summary

Staff who will be unable to access their university accounts after leaving the university can follow these steps to transfer Gmail and Google Drive data to another Google account before their term is over. They will have 30 days to access their university account after termination. If they need more extensive access, please consider a sponsorship.

Environment

Windows, Mac 

Directions

  1. Go to https://myaccount.google.com.
  2. On the home page, the first box should be called "Transfer your content." In that box, click "Start Transfer."
  3. Enter the email address for the destination account (where you would like the content transferred to). Click Next.
  4. Log in to the destination account.
  5. Find an email from Google with a verification code for the transfer.
  6. Input that code back on the transfer site. Click Next.
  7. Select Drive, Gmail, or both (depending on what you want to transfer).
  8. Click Start Transfer.

Additional notes

Ownership and sharing settings for all files will remain the same. If necessary, please transfer ownership of folders and files.
