Installing UMBS public printers on macOS


Install one of the 5 public printers available at the University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS).




  1. Open System Preferences, then Printers & Scanners.
  2. Click the + sign under the list of printers on the left side of the window to add a new printer (macOS 13 Ventura or newer will have the option to Add Printer, Scanner or Fax).
  3. Click on the IP button at the top of the window and paste in one of the following printer addresses under Address:
    • LaRue black & white printer
    • LaRue color printer
    • Lakeside Computer Center black & white printer
    • Lakeside Computer Center color printer
    • Library black & white printer
  4. Leave Protocol set to Line Printer Daemon - LPD and leave Queue blank, then give the printer any name and location you choose under Name and Location.
  5. MacOS should automatically find the driver for the printer and list it under Use.
  6. Click Add and MacOS will install the printer.
