Technology Services guidelines for warranties with technology purchases

Summary

This document is meant to help aid in navigating when and what to purchase warranties for as per LSA policy.  The following criteria will assist in determining if a warranty is needed.  Please note with warranty purchases, any asset will need to be tagged accordingly in the TDX inventory system.  

Warranty status needs to be reflective of the 4 year hardware cycle.  Please ensure 4 year warranties are chosen.  If departments do not purchase these warranties, they will be responsible for the cost of any repairs, accidental or otherwise.

Guidelines

  • Monitors over $1000 in cost:
    • Any monitors costing $1000 or more, will require a warranty purchase and the hardware inventoried in TDX.
  • Research hardware over $1000:
    • Any instrumentation or hardware purchases exceeding $1000 or more. 
    • Tracking instrumentation in the CLIF notes KB is required.
  • Microsoft Surface purchases:
  • iPads
