Finding your computer name (Windows and Mac)

Instructions on how to find your computer name on a Windows or a Mac computer.

 Note
If your University-managed computer doesn't have a sticker with your computer's name on it, at the bottom of the computer, there should be a blue asset tag with a QR code and the asset number on it.

Windows OS

via About Your PC

  1. Click on the Start menu.
  2. Type and click on About your PC.
  3. Your computer name is listed under Device name.

via Command Prompt

  1. Click on the Start menu.
  2. Type and click on Command Prompt.
  3. Type in:
    hostname

MacOS

How to find your computer name on MacOS Monterey

  1. Click the Apple in the upper-left menu bar.
  2. Choose System Preferences.
  3. Click Sharing.
  4. The Computer Name is listed on top of the frame.

How to find your computer name on MacOS Ventura

  1. Click the Apple in the upper-left menu bar.
  2. Click System Settings...
  3. Click General.
  4. The name is listed under Name in the first row.
